Do you also spend a lot of time on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram?
Do you participate in events, network, listen to podcasts and watch YouTube videos? Do you receive stacks of newsletters?
We are bombarded with thousands of messages every single day. Most of them are fleeting and have only one purpose: to sell us something.
That's how your readers feel too.
Keep that in mind when you send out your next newsletter.
Be the radio programme they always choose first
You can be the programme that your listeners tune into right away – or the one they rush to switch off because it's full of adverts, boring, and because the host doesn't know how to engage them.
Your newsletter should add value and entertain, so that readers stick around – just like with their favourite radio programme.
A simple test: Send your newsletter to yourself. See how it feels to be the recipient.
Ask yourself:
- Does it give me value?
- Is it entertaining?
- Can I sense the person behind the words?
If the answer is not a clear YES, then keep working on your news letter.
You are the host of your own show
Imagine that you have hundreds or thousands of regular listeners out there. Do everything you can to live up to their expectations – or even exceed them!
A good radio programme comes at a fixed time.
The same should apply to your newsletter.
For many years, I sent out newsletters whenever I felt like it. After I started sending them out every Friday morning, it feels like my own little radio programme with lots of happy listeners.
The results speak for themselves: higher open rates, more responses from readers, and more new subscribers – without me changing anything else.
You can get the same results
See yourself as the host of your own show, broadcast weekly or every 14 days, where you decide the content.
The biggest advantages of a fixed frequency? Your readers will remember you much better, and you will build greater trust – simply because they know they can count on you.
You won't have readers who receive your newsletter and think, ‘When did I sign up for this?’ while looking for the unsubscribe button.
P.S: Feel free to send me a link to your newsletter – I'd love to read it!
Kind regards,
René Hjetting
